The past month has gone by fast! I realized I haven’t posted anything new in almost a month. So let’s break the streak!
Last weekend we went to Gialina which is in Glen Park and about a 5 minute drive from our place. We’ve had takeout from there once and it was good.
We were there just before 6pm so hoping that we’d snag an empty table before the place filled out. Unfortunately there were no open tables but the wait was only about 15 minutes.
After our table came free, the waiter asked if we needed a highchair and booster. Yes to both. The waiter came back with the highchair (and booster) which basically was a chair that you attach directly to the table. It worked perfectly as Lilly stayed comfy in that for a good portion of the dinner.
After taking a look at the menu we decided to start with the Fava Bean Puree w/ housemade pickles & flatbread
Emma wasn’t a fan of it but we both liked it.
We also ordered a wild arugula w/ Frog Hollow peaches, goat cheese & pistachios salad. This was very tasty.
I washed my meal down with a glass of wine (house red).
We ordered a Margherita which was mainly for Emma. I wanted her to get some protein so added on sausage (I had asked if it was spicy and the waiter said no). Of course, when the pizza came, she picked off all the sausage (and basil)!! I did have a slice (with everything on it) and the pizza was great. I loved the crust – soft, light, chewy.
The other pizza we ordered was the asparagus w/ mozzarella, Meyer lemon, truffled Pecorino & a farm egg. This one was really really good! I’d get it again in a heartbeat. Anna even went so far as to say she liked Gialina’s pizzas better than Delfina’s! I like both.
As we were eating, the place was getting busier and busier. There was a line but it wasn’t as crazy as the night I came by to pick up my takeout (which takes about 45 minutes from the time you call in your order to being ready). Towards the end of dinner, I bumped into a former co-worker Virginia who was coming for dinner with her boyfriend. They are part of a band called The Mantles! Check them out!
The waiter was excellent – friendly and attentive.
One word to describe this place … AWESOME.
